Woot! Fired....

Just got fired from my job at LJS for telling too off-color of a joke to someone I didn’t know was a minor.

I feel fan-fucking-tastic.

(I hate my life).

Woot! Fired…

I thought you wanted out of there anyway, right? Maybe this is a blessing in disguise Jaks.

Woot! Fired…

What was the joke?

Woot! Fired…

Well, look at it this way: that job was the bane of your existence. The lack of income will suck; everything else probably will not.

Woot! Fired…

Yes, I wanted out of there, but mainly on my terms. I kind of wanted to have another, better job lined up before hand.

EDIT:

What was the joke?

If a guy shoves his genitalia into a dead body is this considered sex because it’s a body or masturbation because it’s inanimate.

I told that to a guy who’s taller than me and has facial hair, I had no reason to think he was a freshmen in high school.

Woot! Fired…

That’s… probably not an appropriate joke to tell most places anyway. Also, it’s really not a joke… I mean yeah, it could be construed as funny by some people, but it doesn’t really have any setup or punchline.

Woot! Fired…

Well when 23 other employees, two of which are actually managers find it funny, I didn’t think their was anything wrong with it so long as customers didn’t hear it. I was wrong. Dead wrong.

Woot! Fired…

While I understand why you wouldn’t think it’s wrong if all the other co-workers didn’t object, the fact is that kind of joke is inappropriate for a workplace. Not to rub it in your face or anything, but consider this a lesson learned.

Woot! Fired…

Eh, that’s what most people say….

Woot! Fired…

Unless the kid’s parents kicked up a fuss, I don’t think I would have fired you for this.

Oh his grandfather just happens to be Vice President of BR Associates, the franchise that owns the fucking place.

What the heck is a Freshman doing working there? Don’t you have to be 16?

15 at that place.

Kind of pisses me off that they hired him to begin with. We’re not allowed to hire my girlfriends mother because she’s “too close a friend of mine,” even though she needs a job pretty badly, but they can show favoritism to the Grandson of the owner of the company.

The dude is a lazy fucking ginger snitch who is every bit the same as Ferguson from Clarissa Explains it All except nowhere near as intelligent. I bust my ass over their so hard just to make sure they want to keep me and yet, seniority goes out the window because he’s the grandson of an LJS Vice President.

EDIT: Oh, and to pre-empt an obvious question. The incident took place about 3 weeks ago, I found out he was the Vice President’s grandson yesterday, and yes if I had known beforehand I would have kissed ass like everyone else as disrespecting that kind of employee, minor or not, is almost a surefire way to get shitcannned.

Woot! Fired…

I’d be pissed.

Good luck finding a new job.

Woot! Fired…

Sounds like you got a raw deal due to favoritism. Sucks when that happens.

Woot! Fired…

Nepotism sucks. That’s all I can say about it. It just sucks.

Woot! Fired…

Good point, but Jaks’ situation sounds different to me. This kid is a freshman in high school? He doesn’t NEED a job. He’s a kid. In Jaks’ case, nepotism cost him his job, all because he’s the grandson of a high-ranking official in the company. And that sucks.

If I owned my own company (and hope to one day), and a family member NEEDED a job, sure, I’d hire them, on the condition that they don’t get treated any better or worse than any other employee.

My boss now, both of his sons drive (one drives a flatbed like me, the other a rotator rig, which I want sooooooo bad), and his daughter works in the office. They are treated the same as myself or any of the other 20 or so employees. They don’t ask for favors, and don’t expect them. They are subject to the same rules and regulations as all of us. Which is how it should be.

Woot! Fired…

This kid has a 300 dollar trick-bike and his own car despite not being able to drive it yet.

The only thing he needs is a work ethic, and that doesn’t require an actual workplace job.

EDIT (sorry, hit the submit button by mistake)-

I just went down there and did something I would NEVER do unless absolutely necessary. I talked with the General Manager and showed her my documents that label me as an Aspergers person. I pleaded my case, I kissed ass to try and get my job back, and I got nothing.

Then I find out through gossip that the dude who snitched on me just got a pay raise (not a long string of rumors either, the dude told a friend of mine Tony, and Tony told me). Not just a minimum wage pay raise because of what’s happening July 24th either, but a full 8 dollar an hour wage right now. He’s worked there for 3-4 months.

Holy fucking shit if I had a shred of evidence that he actually got a pay raise I would not hesitate to take them to court.

Woot! Fired…

LOL! On what grounds???[/quote]

On the grounds that standard employee’s were denied their 6 month evaluations due to minimum wage increases, in that some of the managers claimed “There’s really no point in giving you a 25 cent raise when a few months from now it’s gonna go up a dollar.” Also the idea that he’s being shown favoritism. If he were like every other employee, and even got a biannual evaluation, his wage would’ve gone from 6.55 to 6.80 at most. A dollar and a half wage increase is absurd and completely unfair to the rest of the employees.

Now if I were to actually grow some balls and take them to court, would I win? Not a chance in hell. But they’ve been pissing me off for long enough I might be willing to simply make that particular GM’s life a nightmare.

Woot! Fired…

Is there actually any law against a spot of favouritism?

Woot! Fired…

Equal opportunities act. I don’t know if it does actually cover that particular subject, but considering its name it really should.

Woot! Fired…

I don’t think you have a legal leg to stand on, Jaks.

Woot! Fired…

Yeh - I thought that you could complain if you were done wrong, but not if someone else was done better by, unless you ought to have received the same bonus.
