Will this fit in your living room?

I would have to some rearranging and a little remodeling, but I think I could fit it in, assuming it fits through the door.

God, I love that song. And I was sure I was the only one on the forum who knew it…
It’s gonna be a reality sooner than Weird Al ever anticipated, that’s for sure.

That’s really really really big.

And I was disgusted the other day when we were buying a TV and there were 70 inchers just knocking about.

I think it would fit in my lounge. We would have to move some stuff around though. But I don’t think I would actually want a TV that big.

Given that TV screen sizes are measured on the diagonal and widescreen TVs are generally a 16:9 ratio, we could calculate the size of a 2000" TV.

((16/9)x)[sup]2[/sup] + x[sup]2[/sup] = (2000 in)[sup]2[/sup]
x = 981 in = 81 ft, 9 in.
(16/9)x = 1743 in = 145 ft, 3 in

So a 2000" TV would be 81’9" high and 145’3" wide, and I doubt that will be fitting in anybody’s living room soon.

Of course, when Weird Al wrote that song, widescreen TV’s weren’t exactly common, so we should probably redo those calculations for a standard TV aspect ratio (4:3):

((4/3)x)[sup]2[/sup] + x[sup]2[/sup] = (2000 in)[sup]2[/sup]
x = 1200 in = 100 ft
(4/3)x = 1600 in = 133 ft, 4 in

So Frank’s TV probably had a screen that was 100’ tall and 133’4" wide.

(And yes, I’ve heard the song, and I know we weren’t being serious about actually being close to a 2000" TV any time soon. I just like math, even if this math is simple.)

a little rearranging and i think i could get it to fit.

The 2000 or 150 inch?

You could fit the 2000 in my garden, or on an entire wall of my house? But then that could be kinda uncomfortable.

Assuming a 1080 resolution my graph reckons you need about 316 feet viewing distance, which is less than convenient. Unfortunately, given that that’s extrapolated from data which stopped at 65’’ I doubt it’s that accurate.

The internet reckons about 260, with a maximum of 700 for watching crappier quality.

A church maybe?

And I was joking btw.

Will this fit in your living room?

I showed the picture to my brother, and he said he wanted one of them, even though the TV would actually be bigger than any of his walls.

I was thinking along the aisle, but you don’t really have our high, vaulted gothic churches etc do you?

Will this fit in your living room?

Did you see the part (different article at CES) about how you could actually get it? If you bought it, it would have to be shipped from Japan on board a 747’s cargo hold in the nose. They would only be able to ship one at a time!

Barely anyone will get a 150 inch tv. A projector/screen would be much beter. My school just got new projector systems and we have watched the new priates movie on it and it looks exactly like the movies just with a smaller screen. Projectors have a perfect image size to me the onlyproblem are the 200 dollar light blubs they use but its cheaper then expanding your whole living room.

But you do need a room with a high ceiling for a projector, whilst it wouldn’t look quite so odd to whack a plasma on the floor.

I’ve decided that I’d have it hung from the back wall of my house or on the flat roof over the kitchen so you could see it from the pool. Clearly I’m yet to work out how you’re going to stop it getting wet/nicked…
