So as some of you may know, I’m a black belt taekwondo instructor. During one of the sparring practices yesterday, I misjudged a kick and smashed my toe into my partner’s elbow instead of the bag she was holding.
Fast-forward to today, and my toe is still killing me. After two hours in the emergency room, I learn that I’ve fractured the little toe on my right foot, and it’ll take 4-6 weeks to heal. Worse, I can’t go to taekwando at all for the next week. Doctor’s orders.
They gave me some pretty heavy-duty pain medication, and I can only hope that this topic makes sense, because I’m on it as we speak. All I can say is that it really sucks to have a broken toe - it hurts like heck, and the pain meds are making me quite loopy.
Anyone else have a similar experience? Sorry for the self-centered topic. Just needed to vent.
I’ve broken my big toe before. YOU ACTULY GOT PAIN MEDS FOR YOUR LIL TOE. Only thing i got was tape to tape big toe and that other toe beside it together. Broke my toe getting off our boat onto Our boat dock.
Never broke a bone, but I’ve diced open my finger on a meat-slicer at work and I’ve also had foot surgery, but NEVER broke a bone. Hope you heal up good man, and you can go back to taekwando.
oh i have had so many injuries. i have broken every bone in both my hands, my foot, my ankle. Ive torn ligaments in my knee which needed surgery. Ive knocked my pelvis out of line, squashed disks in my neck and spine. dislocated my shoulder cracked my elbow, had 3 concussions and currently i have four disks in my back that are leaking. most of these were caused by wrestling and the crap thing about the business was that i had to keep wrestling on the fast majority. the only time i stopped was with the my shoulder. hah, one time i collapsed and was kept in hospital for two weeks getting tests done and the weekend i got out i was on a tour. Im sorta glad that i had to stop. the worst was when i broke my anle, well it wasnt a full blown break it was a hair line fracture. it was when i just started training and it sucked training on that. the moto in the wrestlig bussiness is you dont know how goo you are till you wrestle hurt
All right, so I went to pick up my prescriptions today, and decided to forgo the Percocet. I really did not enjoy the side effects of that particular medication - it made me feel like I was drunk, sick to my stomach, and unbelievably drowsy. After sleeping for 10 or 11 hours (when 7-8 usually does just fine for me), I still felt exhausted all day. All this, plus it’s a narcotic, so it’s probably addictive. No thanks, I say. I think the only thing I’d do with it is sell it to punks on the street for $5 a pop.
(Note: The last sentence was a joke and I don’t advocate dealing drugs, etc., etc.)
The other prescription I got was for a high-dosage Ibuprofen, which actually has been working very well with no discernible side effects, as long as it’s taken with some food.
In any case, thanks for the well-wishing. Dctalk, Vickie, Chris, and Someguy - sorry to hear about your injuries. They sound pretty painful.
It’s good to hear your on the mend, it sucks when you get some bad prescriptions, you should check with the doc to see if they can prescribe you with something else
