This Burger King sucks.

So, I filled out an online job application with Burger King last week.

I got a call last Sunday to come in for an interview that night. It went well enough where the manager decided that he wanted me to talk to his store manager(every person has to have two interviews, apparently).

He told me to come back at 3:30 yesterday. I came back and he told me his manager had left for an unannounced meeting and asked me to come back this morning at 9:30. I said that was fine.

So I went this morning. I waited for about 15 minutes until the same manager I talked to on Sunday came over to me and said that since I have a big vacation scheduled in 10 days(from today) that his store manager didn’t want to take the risk of hiring me and training me and shit. (Which, IMO, is complete bullshit because I said during the first interview that I had done that before. I wouldn’t have said I could do it if I thought I couldn’t.)

I said OK and left.

Now, I do understand his position. I’m not disputing that at all.

I’m pissed because he made me come up there twice, and his store manager didn’t even take three minutes out of his “busy” schedule to tell me that himself. (There were no customers in the store this morning when I was there)

Hell, at the very least he could’ve called me yesterday and told me so I wouldn’t have come up there again.

Fucking unprofessional assholes.

Re: This Burger King sucks.

A couple of things.

(every person has to have two interviews, apparently).

This is very common actually. Most places I know of do this anyway.

And-

I’m pissed because he made me come up there twice, and his store manager didn’t even take three minutes out of his “busy” schedule to tell me that himself. (There were no customers in the store this morning when I was there)

I have been a fast food manager before. Regardless of the quantity of customers, it IS a busy as hell job, especially for the general manager. There is an ungodly amount of paperwork that needs to be done every single day, on top of all the managerial duties like dealing with cash registers, scheduling, letting employee’s go on break, covering for bathroom breaks/smoke breaks, etc etc and on top of THAT they still need to help out during the shift for basic employee duties as well.

Most employees at a fast food restaurant do one or two positions at most during a day. The drive through guy is always going to be that drive through guy that day. The managers do all positions, every single one of them, and it’s always a constant flux every single day.

With a job associated in fast food, you need to be stubborn as hell to try and get that position. You can’t be just like “Oh well that’s okay.” You need to show them that you need that job, that you’re determined to get it even if it annoys them. After I lost my job at LJS, any place that had a “Now hiring” sign on that I’ve applied to I went into every single day and talked to a manager every single time about a job until I got my subway job.

Finally-

So I went this morning. I waited for about 15 minutes until the same manager I talked to on Sunday came over to me and said that since I have a big vacation scheduled in 10 days(from today) that his store manager didn’t want to take the risk of hiring me and training me and shit. (Which, IMO, is complete bullshit because I said during the first interview that I had done that before. I wouldn’t have said I could do it if I thought I couldn’t.)

Fast food has unbelievably high turnover. This is the kind of job that you really can’t request days off at any time for at least three months or have shitty availability. You definitely need to be available almost all the time, any time to work there ESPECIALLY if you’re over 18.

So…I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to side with the BK ones on this one. You did everything right by showing up to the interviews and stuff, but your ten days vacation, if I was looking at that application, I honestly wouldn’t give it a second thought to turn it down. Most fast food employers have a stack of applications of at least 20-40 applicants at all times in this day and age. The simple truth is that if I were the manager at BK looking at your application, I’d simply say to myself “There’s probably three other people just like this guy who -aren’t- going on vacation.”

Re: This Burger King sucks.

If you had the time, which you may not always have. That’s my major point, fast food joints, even when they aren’t busy with customers, are still extremely busy these days.

Re: This Burger King sucks.

What Kip is actually saying is it’s bullshit they had him come in twice when they could have not have him come in at all because they weren’t going to hire him. Why have someone come in if you aren’t going to hire them?
