Lightsaber top of movie weapon poll

The Star Wars’ lightsaber has been named the favourite movie weapon of all time.

The Jedi’s blade beat James Bond’s gun and Indiana Jones’ bullwhip in the poll.

Other weapons in the top 10 include the samurai sword from Kill Bill and the bow and arrow used in Robin Hood.

The survey of 2,000 film fans, commissioned by 20th Century Fox, also named the vengeful bride in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill the UK’s favourite “weapon-wielding movie hero”.

The poll was carried out to mark the DVD release of Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest.

The top 10 favourite movie weapons were, in order from first to last: the Star Wars lightsaber, Dirty Harry’s .44 Magnum, Indiana Jones’ bullwhip, the samurai sword used in Kill Bill, the chainsaw from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, James Bond’s golden gun, Robin Hood’s bow and arrow, the machine gun in Scarface, Star Wars’ Death Star and the bowler hat used by James Bond in Goldfinger.

Interesting little list.

I made a poll, but it said I had too many options, why did it let me make too many options in the first place. Oh well list your favorite, from the list or from another movie.

After contemplating this for a while, I keep returning to Han Solo’s Blaster.

The lightsaber is a super sweet weapon, thought it does lack the ingenuity of a bowler hat. I agree with you Valentine that Han’s blaster was a great weapon too. The loading robot from Aliens was also a super sweet weapon.

M134 Minigun from Predator anyone? Silly it was, but also very very cool. If only it were actually possible.

Topper Harley’s knife from Hot Shots Part Deux!

I could go on and on about existing weapons used in movies (F-14 from Top Gun, AV-8B from True Lies, etc etc), but I think that kind of defeats the purpose. Yeah, I know very well the minigun is a real weapon, but it’s far to heavy and impractical for individual use, so it counts as a fictional weapon in this case.

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

The chainsaw is amazing.

However, how about Terminator’s shotgun or the bare knuckles of however many fighters.

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

RT, the weapons don’t have to be fictional, they just have to be used in a movie. Dirty Harry’s .44 Magnum exists.

I’m a little unsure about the inclusion of the Deathstar, I don’t think vehicles should be included. I would have listed Little Nellie from Bond if I were including them.

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

One of the worst movies ever, Judge Dredd had one of the coolest guns ever. It changed the way it shot based on a voice command. Also, there was a grenade in Eraser that launched a container into the air and then exploded, sending nails in a scatter all around the room…and the rail gun things in that were sweet too.

I just remembered The Nude Bomb!!!

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

Interestingly, those are both real weapons too! Bouncing Betties and, well, Railguns (though still in the “in development” stage.)

I’m a fan of coilguns, personally, simply because magnets are full of awesome.

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

Yeah, coilguns are sweet. Enough power to completely penetrate a soda can! Technology has a long way to go

Yeah, I know I know. I guess it was because they were vehicles that it felt wrong, so I agree with you Val.

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

Yes, a Jedi’s weapon is #1!! Yea for us!! I think I just saw Yoda do a backflip!!

Death Star? What?? It can be taken out, by a single X-wing fighter!!

What about the 4-barrel shogun from Phantasm 2, or Jason Voorhees machete?

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

What about the spheres from Phantasm, the ones that stab you in the face with spooky doom? Those were boss indeed.

Someone should make a Half-Life film so I could nominate the Gravity Gun. Actually, they probably shouldn’t because it would be awful as all films based on video games are but that’s beside the point, it’s still cool.

Aside from that, lightsabres are pretty hard to beat. Not the stupid doubled-bladed ones though.

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

Blasphemy, the double bladed lightsaber was the ONLY redeeming part of the ENTIRE new trilogy of Star Wars movies. For shame Jaiden, for shame.

Eraser was a lousy movie, but it had a pretty sweet rail gun. Also, let’s not forget Ash’s “boomstick”/chainsaw combo from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness.

My favorite movie weapon?

The carrot in Shoot 'Em Up. It’s hilarious!

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

What about some of the abilities in Heores?

I’d love to shoot electricity…

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

I’d love to have the power to watch Heros. WAY too many story lines and diffrent settings then even Lost might ever have.

They need to make a Portal movie too so we can nominate the Portal gun along with the gravity gun. (you can get the Portal gun in HL2 BTW, but file editing is need)

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

I wouldn’t exactly classify those as “weapons” but more as “powers” (there’s a distinct difference).

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

What about in Harry Potter when Harry and Love are both weapons?

The Top Ten Movie Weapons.

I wouldn’t know anything about that, since I’m not a fan of that series.
