Chapter 94
An hour later, Peter got up from his chair and moved to Billy’s side. He opened each of Billy’s eyes in turn and pulled his pacifier out to check his gums for bleeding. Seeing no indication of blood, he replaced his binky and grasped the left tape on his diaper, pulling it free. “Can you hand me a diaper and the wipes?” he asked Sharon.
“Sure.” she answered as she placed them on the crib mattress in front of him. “What are you looking for?” she asked with concern.
“Any sign of bleeding.” he told her as he lowered the front of Billy’s diaper. He inspected the wet padding inside the diaper looking for any red or orange coloration and was glad to see nothing but a pale yellowish tint. Lifting Billy’s legs, he pulled the cheeks of his bottom apart to inspect his anus. He was happy to see no indication of bleeding among the small amount of stool that had pushed it’s way out. Using a wipe to clean the mess up, he soon had a clean dry diaper on Billy’s bottom.
He walked to the sink and washed his hands thoroughly as he said “No sign of problems, he looks to be tolerating the medication fine.”
“Thank God.” Sharon sighed. That was good news. She sat considering what would happen next. Billy could wake up in the morning and talk and behave like a small but normal nine year old. Sharon was torn about this possibility. A part of her wished he would do exactly that, no longer at risk for serious complications. Another part of her wanted him to open his eyes and cry for nummies.
“What’s going on in there?” Peter asked her as he saw her stare into space, deep in thought.
Sharon didn’t quite know how to express how she was feeling. “I don’t know.” she said.
“Yes you do.” Peter told her with a comforting smile. “You’re not sure what you want to happen. Part of you wants him to get completely better and to be done with the uncertainty of all of this. Another part doesn’t want to give up the baby boy.”
Sharon couldn’t help the tears that formed. “Is it that obvious?” she asked.
“Yes, and predictable. I don’t blame you considering how close you’ve become to him since all of this happened.” he told her. “I want you to think about something though. You’re assuming that Billy is going to want to just give up all of the things he’s become so attached to. What makes you think that he’ll want to do that?” he asked.
Sharon was at a loss as she said. “I don’t know, I just thought he’d feel foolish if he didn’t have a physical need to be cared for that way.” she told him.
“Did he have a physical need on Christmas day?” he asked.
“No.” she answered.
“Tell me, if he woke up right now, got up out of that crib and walked over to you and in a clear voice asked for nummies, would you nurse him?” Peter asked.
Without hesitation Sharon said “Yes. I couldn’t expect him to adjust that quickly to being able to function. Nursing isn’t just a source of food for him, it’s also a big source of comfort.”
“Exactly.” Peter said with a smile. “He wanted to be babied before he had a physical need to be treated that way, and I don’t think that want will just disappear.” he explained.
“But the cyst caused him to want it enough to pray in tears over it.” Sharon objected.
“It caused the desire to become more important to him, yes. I think after having spent some time snuggling with Mommy, he’s not going to want to give that up any time soon.” Peter explained. “Besides, he still has a need for your breast milk with the steroids on board. It will take some time to get his immune system back where it belongs and I wouldn’t recommend weaning him right now.” he added.
“Another thing I don’t think you’re considering is that he’s here because he was terrified. Even if he improves physically, he’s not going to want to be out of your sight for a while. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he screams if you put him down for a couple of days.” Peter told her.
Sharon forgot about that. She was looking at the clinical situation, but forgot to consider that he would be terrified when he woke up. Peter was right, she knew. She wouldn’t be able to let go of him for a little while. All the progress they had made, with him feeling safe, was gone. She needed to talk with Cathy about this. Actually, the more she thought about it, the better it would be to call Craig and have him see both of the kids. She was concerned how Becky was dealing with this. “Do you think it would be a good idea to call Craig and have him see Becky?” she asked Peter.
“I don’t think it would hurt.” he told her.
“The thing that really got my attention is that Becky didn’t make any attempt to prevent the waitress from picking Billy up. She was standing right next to them.” Sharon explained.
“Hmmm. Well considering how ineffective she felt the last time, it doesn’t surprise me.” he said. “Yes, I think it would help to have him talk to her.” Peter added.
“Are you certain that Billy won’t wake up?” she asked.
“Given the medication that he’s on, it would take a monumental event to rouse him, why?” he replied.
“I think I want to go see how Becky’s doing, and get Craig’s number from April while I’m there.” she said.
Nodding, he said “OK. I’ll stay here just in case. Besides, I want to continue to monitor Billy for any changes.”
With a smile, Sharon said “Thank you. I’ll be back in just a few minutes.” and headed to the nurses station to find out what room Becky was in.
When Sharon got Becky’s room number, she was glad to find out it was on the same floor. She headed in that direction, glad to have something to do other than watch Billy sleep. The other thing that was eating at her was, every time the two children had a problem, she had repeatedly pushed Becky to the back burner in order to see to Billy’s needs. She needed to put Becky first this time.
A moment later she was walking into Becky’s room. She saw April sitting at the bedside reading a book. Rick was sleeping in the bed with Becky. She looked so cute snuggled up with her daddy, cuddling her stuffed Minnie and nursing her pacifier.
“How’s Billy doing?” April asked softly. She knew he had to be fine or Sharon would never have left the room.
“He’s doing well so far with the medication. Peter is keeping an eye on him for bleeding or any other unusual signs. How’s she doing?” she said nodding toward her daughter.
“She’s been asleep since we got to the room. Rick decided to lay down with her because he didn’t know how long he would be up tonight.” April informed her.
Sharon smiled at that. “He’s a smart man.” she said with fondness in her voice.
“That he is.” April said with a smile.
“Do you have Craig’s number with you? I think it would be a good idea if he came and saw her.” Sharon explained.
“That’s a good idea. Besides, it would allow him to speak to the staff. One of the nurses has been giving me odd looks and I don’t want any issues because of Becky’s behavior.” she told Sharon.
“Jesus that’s all we need, another visit from social services.” Sharon said alarmed.
“I doubt it would come to that.” April said trying to reassure her. “And besides, her needs have been documented by two physicians and a psychologist. There’s no need to worry Sharon.”
“It might be a good idea for all of us to sit down and talk about this.” Sharon offered.
“I agree.” April told her. “I’m not sure how that’s going to be possible though. I don’t think Becky is going to allow Rick to leave her sight for the near future.”
“I don’t know, but I think it’s important that we all discuss the situation, Craig included.” she responded.
“Let me go out in the hall and call him. We’ll figure out the logistics later.” April said as she got up from her chair. “If Becky wakes up, there’s a can of PediaSure there for her bottle.” she added.
“Do me a favor, ask them to put it in the refrigerator. She wouldn’t drink that warm, it’s too much like milk.” Sharon asked as she picked the can up and handed it to April.
“I’m sorry, I forgot about that.” April told her with a mortified look.
“Hey, if that’s the worst thing you do on this trip, I’m nominating you for sainthood. Don’t worry about it.” Sharon said with a chuckle.
With a smile, April said “I’ll be right back.” and left the room.
Sharon walked around the bed so she could lean down and give Becky a gentle kiss on her cheek. She smiled as Becky started nursing her pacifier and hugged Minnie closer. Her gaze moved to Rick as he slept. She noticed that this is the first time she had seen him in a while without the stress of everything that had happened on his face. He was sleeping peacefully and she wished she could make sure he stayed that way for a while.
She moved away from the bed and sat down in one of the two chairs in the room. A minute later, April came back in the room and told her “Craig will be by at three. He was very happy to come see her and to talk to the staff here. He’s familiar with most of the nurses here, so that should solve any issues that could arise.”
“Thank you.” Sharon said with a sigh of relief. “I wanted to come make sure she was alright and to get Craig in on this. I need to get back to the PICU, God forbid Billy wakes up and I’m not there.”
“Alright, I’ll be here if you have any questions. Don’t hesitate to call me to see how she’s doing.” April told her.
With a smile, Sharon told her again “Thank you.” and went to give Becky another kiss before she left the room on her way back to the PICU.
When she got back to Billy’s room, Peter was checking him for bleeding again. “Any changes?” she asked.
“No. He seems to be doing fine.” Peter told her.
“Good.” she replied. “Craig is going to be by at three. Is there any way you can figure out a way for you, Craig, April, Rick, Gary and I to talk about all of this for a little bit?”
“Hmmm. I think one of us is going to have to sit that one out. I really don’t think it would be wise to leave Becky alone.” he answered.
“I was afraid of that. Rick is the only one that Becky will be comfortable with. I just really wanted his input on this discussion.” Sharon explained.
“I tell you what, let me go see Gary and see if they have a room like the isolation room at home. We might be able to get Becky to sit and play in there if she can see all of us.” he said.
“That’s a great idea.” she told him. She wasn’t fond of the idea of sitting alone with Billy though. “What do I do?” she asked looking concerned.
“Just sit with him. If anything goes wrong, yell for a nurse. They will probably see it before you do though. They have his vitals monitored out at the nurses station.” he told her.
“Good.” Sharon said with relief.
“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.” Peter told her with a pat to her arm. “I’ll be back in a couple of minutes.”
“I’ll be here.” Sharon said as she took her seat next to the crib and took Billy’s small hand in hers. She watched Peter leave before standing to give Billy a kiss. “Sleep and get better Baby Boy.” she whispered before sitting back down.
It was almost three when Rick opened his eyes and he saw Becky was still sleeping. Looking over, he saw April was reading in the chair. "Any word?" he asked.
April smiled and answered "He's tolerating the medicine well. Sharon came by to check on Becky and asked me to call Craig to come see her. He'll be by at three."
Rick was glad to hear that Billy was doing alright. He agreed it would be a good idea to have Craig get involved again. He might have some ideas on how to help her through this latest development. "Good." was his response.
He smiled as Becky began stretching. His left hand resting on her diaper told him that she needed to be changed. He couldn't help but smile as she looked up and smiled at him and resumed nursing her pacifier. "Hi Baby Girl." he said softly with a kiss to her forehead.
Becky was comfortable. She really loved snuggling with Daddy. When he smiled at her, she felt all warm inside. It took a moment for her to remember that the last thing she knew, she was sitting in Mommy's lap in a waiting room. The incident at the restaurant came back to her then and she pulled closer to Daddy, worry clearly in her expression as she nursed furiously on her binky. She began looking around, wondering where she was and what had happened.
"It's OK Baby, you're in a hospital room." Rick explained. He thought for a second before he told her "The medicine in the apple sauce you ate earlier made you sick so Uncle Peter wanted to put you in the hospital for the night to make you better."
He hated lying to her, but it might make it easier on her. When she asked "Where's Biwwy?" he patted her wet bottom and hugged her close.
"He's in a different room Baby. He's doing fine though, I promise." he answered with a smile. When she relaxed, he told her "I think you need a dry bottom Sweetheart." as he squeezed her wet diaper and made her giggle. When he went to get up to get a diaper, she clung to him. "You want to be close to Daddy don't you Sweety?" he asked.
Becky nodded her head. She didn't want Daddy to get up.
"Alright." he said and turned to April to ask "Can you please hand me the diaper bag?"
"Sure." April answered. She handed it to Rick and asked Becky "How would you like a nice cold ba ba Baby Girl?"
Becky smiled around her binky as she nodded her head vigorously. She was hungry.
April smiled and told Becky "OK, I'll be right back with a ba ba for you then." and pulled an empty bottle from the diaper bag. She left a second later, going to the refrigerator in the snack room.
Rick made quick work of getting Becky into a dry diaper. He wasn't going to use the diaper doublers because there would be plenty of opportunity to check her, but changed his mind. He wanted things to stay as familiar as possible, and having a thicker diaper would make her feel more secure. "There, all nice and dry Sweetheart." he said, just as April returned and handed him her bottle.
Becky smiled as Daddy sat back against the head board and pulled her into his lap. When he took her binky and offered her the nipple she quickly began nursing. She smiled again when she tasted the vanilla flavored PediaSure. It tasted really good. She had expected Daddy to hand her her ba ba, but he held it for her and that made her feel a lot safer. She hugged Minnie tightly for a second as she nuzzled her face against Minnie's soft head.
"You've been such a good girl Pumpkin." Rick told her. "I'm so proud of you." he added with a smile.
That made Becky feel so good. "I wub you Daddy." she told him with a big smile around her ba ba and then quickly resumed nursing. She noticed someone coming into the room then and started to cry when she recognized the mean man that had taken her binky from her as he held her down. Looking around quickly, she picked up her binky and held it tightly in her hand so he couldn't take it away.
"It's alright Becky, I'm not going to ever take your binky again, I promise. Your Mommy would get very angry with me if I did and we don't want that do we?" Craig told her with an understanding smile as he placed a small device on the shelf by the window. He wasn't surprised when she didn't relax.
Rick thought for a second about how to make Becky understand that Craig was here to help her. "Baby, I need you to listen to me." he told her. "Mr. Craig is here to help you feel better." he said as he kissed her forehead.
April spoke up then with "Becky, did you know that it was Mr. Craig's idea to get your nice thick baby dipeys for you?"
Becky couldn't look any more surprised than she did at that moment. She loved her dipeys. They were thick and soft and she couldn't move even a little without noticing they were hugging her bottom. "Weawwy?" she asked astounded.
"Really." Rick told her. "He also made sure we had more than one binky for you in case something happened to the one you're holding on to." he explained. "Not only that, he told us it would probably make you feel better if we had you keep drinking from a ba ba instead of a cup. Was he right?" he asked her.
Becky quickly nodded her head as she continued to nurse. This new information caused her to reevaluate Mr. Craig. She thought back to what happened when she saw him the last time and while she hadn't like it at all, she had to admit that after he did what he did, she felt much better.
When Craig saw her relax, he smiled. "You like that ba ba don't you Baby Girl?" he asked.
Becky nodded her head and smiled.
"That's good Sweety. I really don't want you to be upset or afraid." he told her solemnly. "Can you do something for me?"
"What?" she asked timidly.
"Can you come sit with me for a moment?" he asked and saw the predicted apprehension erupt in her expression. "I want you to help me tell a story." he started to explain. "I promise, you can drink your ba ba and I'm not going to hold you down like I did last time." he reassured her. When she didn't answer, he asked "Would you rather I held you like a baby?"
Becky was scared. She didn't know if she could trust Mr. Craig to not pin her arms and legs like the last time. When she shifted slightly and felt her dipey hug her bottom, she decided that if he was the one that made it so she could have her dipeys and feel safe, then she could trust him to keep his promise. When he asked if she wanted to be held like a baby, that clinched it and she nodded her head.
"What kinda thtowy?" Becky asked as Mr. Craig picked her up and sat in the chair, cradling her in his long arms like an infant. She felt safe in his strong arms.
Making sure to pat her diaper a few times, he said "Well, this is a special story. It's about a girl and her baby brother." he told her. "I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to help this girl, and it would really help me a lot if you could help me figure out how she feels." he explained with a warm smile and another pat to her diaper.
Becky smiled and said "OK." as she felt her dipey get patted. Mr. Craig had great big hands that when he patted, covered most of her bottom and that felt wonderful.
"This girl is ten years old. She was happy and did all the things that ten year old girls do. Can you tell me what they do Sweety?" he asked.
"Wide deir biketh an withen to muthic an thtuff wike dat." Becky answered.
"Exactly. She liked all of those things. Then one day her brother who was eight got really sick. He had to go to the hospital and have an operation. When he came home, he wasn't the same. He couldn't do any of the things like he did before." Craig continued.
"He wath a baby." she offered.
"Exactly." Criag said with a smile. "You are so smart!" he said with another pat to her bottom.
Becky smiled. She liked Mr. Craig.
"Well now, everything was really different at home. The girl saw she didn't have a little boy for a brother but a baby. How do you think she handled that?" he asked.
"She helped Mommy take care of him." Becky answered with a smile.
"That's right! She helped Mommy, and Mommy said she was a big help, didn't she." he asked.
Smiling big, Becky answered "Yeth. Mommy showed hew how to change hith dipey, and she cuddwed him an hewd his ba ba an ebwythin'"
"Yes, and did the girl like helping her Mommy?"
"Yeth, it wath fun!" she answered.
"Exactly right. Now the girl helped Mommy for a few days and things were going really well." Craig told her. "But then something terrible happened; Someone mean and awful came and took both the girl and her brother away." he explained. He felt Becky tense immediately at that point, so he began steadily rocking her as he patted her diaper in a slow rhythm.
"Not only that, but the mean woman that took her brother away wouldn't give him his binky. He didn't like that at all did he?"
"No. He cwied an cwied an den thtopped an had ta go to da hothpital." Becky said as tears began forming.
Craig continued to rock her as he spoke. "Did the girl go into the hospital with him?" he asked.
"No. Dey wouldn't wet hew." she said tearfully.
"Where did the girl go?" he inquired.
"To a wadieth houthe an took a nap." she answered.
"I see. But then the girl woke up and went to see a nice old woman didn't she?" he asked.
"Uh huh."
"And she was taken to a room where her daddy came to see her wasn't she?" he continued.
"Yeth. An she wouldn't hug him." Becky added as she began to cry.
"Oh, but her daddy knew she loved him didn't he." Craig said trying to calm her.
Becky nodded as she said "Mmmm Hmmm." keeping the bottle nipple in her mouth.
"She went home with her daddy later that afternoon didn't she?" he asked.
"Uh huh an she had a acthident." Becky told him.
With a nod of his head Craig clarified "More than one huh?"
"Yeth, but she didn't mean to." she answered crying more.
"There was someone else there with her and daddy wasn't there?"
"Yeah, Gwamma wath der. She was weawwy nithe."
"Did the girl get to take a bath?" he asked.
Becky nodded and said "Yeth. Gwamma washed her."
"Did the girl like being washed by her grandma?"
"Uh huh. It made her weth thcawed." she replied.
"That's good." he said as he continued to rock her gently. "The next morning the girl woke up and had breakfast didn't she." he stated.
"Uh huh. She wead da papew and thaw dat dey wied." Becky explained.
"Right. And who did the girl call? I don't remember." he prompted her.
"Daddy." she answered sobbing now.
Patting her a bit faster now, he asked "And what did her daddy do?"
"He came home an hugged her tight. He pwomithed he wouwdent put hew down." she answered sounding better.
"And did he put her down?"
"No." she told him with a small tearful smile. A second later she added "Not eben in da potty."
Craig noticed as they went along, her speech patterns slowly became more and more like toddler talk. He saw her bottle was all but empty so, to reassure her, he said "Why don't you take your binky now Baby, your ba ba is empty." as he took her bottle from her.
Becky was so glad when Mr. Craig said to take her binky. She knew then that she didn't have to worry about him taking it away.
The distraction allowed Becky to settle down as he had hoped it would. Craig asked "Her daddy even held her on the potty?"
"Yeth, an eben cweaned hew bottom." she answered.
"Did that make her feel bad?" he asked, trying to see how she responded.
"No. It made hew feew thafe." Becky answered solemnly.
Rick sat and listened to this and was astounded at how easily Craig was getting Becky to tell him how she felt about these things. While she did get upset, by talking about what happened as if it happened to another person, he made it possible for Becky to handle the fear associated with what happened.
"I see. Well that makes sense doesn't it?" he asked and was rewarded with a nod of Becky's head. "The girl went to the hospital to see her brother didn't she?"
"Uh huh. An' she had an acthident again." she told him.
"Really. Well then I guess they had to put a dipey on her then huh?" he asked.
"No. Dey pu big girw pantieth on hew." Becky explained.
"Her daddy didn't get mad?"
"No. He thaid don' wowwy 'bout it." she replied.
"That was nice, huh?" he offered.
"Mmmm Hmmm. Daddy knew she couwdn' hewp it." she said solemnly.
"Oh, well then that's OK." he told her earnestly.
Becky nodded her head. She liked helping to tell this story.
"A doctor helped the girl feel safe didn't he?" Craig asked.
"Uh huh." she said quickly. "He showed hew how ta make da doow wock."
"Yes, and that kept the bad people out didn't it?"
"Yeth. Daddy couldn' eben open da doow." Becky answered.
"The girl must have been sure no one could get in then." he said.
"Yeah. It wouwdn' open." she replied.
"The girl was glad to see her brother wasn't she?"
"Mmmm Hmmm. He wath awight." she answered.
Craig, looking perplexed, asked "Did the girl sleep there? I don't remember."
"Yeth, an Mommy tol' hew to pee pee in hew pantieth. She did, but den musta went pee pee again 'cauthe da bed an' Daddy'th cwothe wath aww wet in da mornin'." Becky explained.
"Was her Daddy mad about that?" he asked.
"No. He athked hew ta be hith wittwe girw. He mithed hith wittwe girw." she answered.
"Oh. I see."
"An' he athked if she would weaw wittwe girw dipeys an' she thaid yeth." she elaborated.
"I'll bet she felt bad about that." he prompted.
"No." Becky said earnestly. "She wanted to be Daddy'th wittwe girw."
"I see. So it made her feel better to wear a little girl dipey?" he asked.
"Awot bettew." Becky explained.
"Well, that's good." he told her. He was glad she had said that. While he was pretty sure that she felt that way, there was no doubt now. "The little girl got a surprise the next morning didn't she?" he asked.
"Yeth!" Becky said excitedly. "She got to go on a buth to Dithney!"
"I'll bet that was a lot of fun." he replied.
Her excitement changed suddenly and she said "Not da Potty on da buth. Dat wath no fun." as tears formed.
"But the little girl only had to use it once, isn't that right?" he asked, trying to lessen the impact.
"Yeah." Becky answered with a smile. "Daddy told hew she could uthe hew dipey wike wittwe girws awe th'pothe to."
"Well that's good. Was she afraid of the potty?" he questioned.
"Yeth. It wath thcawy." she answered earnestly.
"I see." he told her. Craig kept prompting her, bringing out her thoughts on what happened when she got to Disney and the walk she took to the mailbox. She offerered the feelings of 'the little girl' as the story progressed. When he got to where she took a nap, he asked "The little girl woke up and took her brother's binky, didn't she?"
"Yeth. Mommy got mad." Becky said as she looked anywhere but Mr. Craig's eyes.
"Did the binky make her feel better?" he hurried on, not wanting to address whether it was right or wrong.
"Yeth. It made hew awot weth thcawed." Becky answered.
"I understand." he told her and then added "The little girl was woken up very frightened, wasn't she?"
When Becky began crying and answered a tearful "Uh huh." Craig began rocking and patting her diaper again. This calmed her somewhat.
"Didn't Daddy give her a ba ba then?" he asked.
"Mmmm hmmm." she answered through her tears as she nursed hard on her binky.
"Did the ba ba make her feel better?"
"Yeth. Much bettew." Becky answered as she settled down.
"And didn't someone give her something else that made her feel even better than the ba ba?" he asked.
With a vigorous nod of her head she said "A binky." with a small smile.
"That's right. It was a special binky, much bigger that her brother's binky huh?"
"Yeth. An' it fewt awot bettew too." she admitted.
"Well that's good. Did the binky make her fear go away completely?" he asked.
"No. But when Daddy put baby dipeys on hew, it went away." she explained.
"I see. So just the baby dipey or just the binky wouldn't do it by themselves?"
"No. Had ta hab bof." she answered firmly.
"Now I understand. And the ba ba makes it even better?" he asked.
"Uh huh." she said as she nodded.
"And how about eating? Does she want to feed herself or would she rather have Mommy or Daddy feed her?"
"Mommy ow Daddy do." she said simply.
"So she's a little girl that wants to wear a dipey and take a binky?" he asked.
"No. Sheth a baby girw."
"Oh. I see now, she's not a little girl anymore then."
"No. Baby girw."
"Well I guess it makes sense that she wears baby dipeys and wants a binky and a ba ba then, huh?"
"Mmmm hmmm." Becky answered.
"She must want to grow up though. Doesn't she?" he asked.
"No!" Becky answered firmly as tears threatened again.
"Oh, so she wants to stay a baby for a while then?"
"Uh huh."
"How long I wonder?" he asked.
"Don' know." she answered honestly.
Craig sat her up gently and gave her a big hug, patting her diaper for a moment as he said "Well, you've been a really big help to me today. You are a great story teller! Daddy's going to hold you now, and I need to go see some other people."
"Come here Pumpkin." Rick said as he took her in his arms. "You were a good girl for helping Mr. Craig." he added with a smile.
Craig stood, leaned toward her, kissed her forehead and said "Thank you so much Baby for helping today."
"You wewcome." she answered with a smile.
He walked over, picked up the device he had laid down and said "Alright, I'll see you later Sweety." and left the room.
"I need to go make sure you're dinner is coming Baby Girl. I'll be back in a little bit." April said and left the room to talk with Craig.
He was waiting around the corner when April came out. "You are a gifted man, you know that?" she asked.
"Well, I don't know about that, but she did surprisingly well with that." he answered.
"Yes. What do you make of it?" she asked.
"Keep treating her like a toddler. We all suspected what she wanted, but now it's clear. I'd like to talk with Rick and Sharon if possible." he told her.
"That's going to be the trick. After what happened to bring them here, I don't know if Becky will let Rick leave her side." April explained.
"I know. Is Peter around? I might have an idea how we might be able to make that happen." he replied.
"He's in the PICU with Billy and Sharon. It would be good if you went to see her as well. She's having a bit of a time with all of this, understandably." she told him.
With a sigh he said "It was inevitable. Alright, I'll go see her."
"Thank you." April said with a smile.
