RIP Paul Harvey

Just saw on a news website that Paul Harvey died. I am familiar with him cause of my grandparents and they always listened to him.

Unfortunately I have no idea who this is. But it doth suck that he died.

RIP Paul Harvey

That’s more or less how I felt.

RIP Paul Harvey

Paul Harvey was the old guy with the kind of higher pitch voice that used to say “And now…….For the rest of the story.”

I remember listening to this gentleman on sunday mornings as a kid when we were on our way to church.

He was kind of an american radio icon for a while, even managed syndication when that wasn’t such a popular thing back then.

A sad thing to hear he passed away.

My father went to high school with him in Tulsa. I was wondering about his status a few months back and… now I know the rest of the story.

RIP Paul Harvey

I am not surprised many younger people are not familiar with him. I only remember him because my grandparents liked him. They listened to him all the time on a Mansfield, OH radio station when I was growing up or a Toledo, OH station when they were at my aunt’s house.

I only posted what I did because he was a pioneer in radio. I also wanted to conduct a scientific experimentation and find out if many knew who he was here. I am NOT surprised. I blame TV, and reality TV for that.

Or foreign people.

RIP Paul Harvey

I knew who he was, but mostly through jokes. Like… I believe on The Simpsons when Homer and Marge are trying to rekindle the romance they buy an audio book read by Paul Harvey (impersonation by: Harry Shearer) titled: “Mr. and Mrs. Erotic American.” Freakazoid also contains a caricature of him in the episode “Candle Jack” (I believe, impersonation by: Paul Rugg). These aren’t mean-spirited jokes either, they come from somewhere inside and just kind of poke silly fun at the man.

It’s near the end of this:

I cannot say I had any feelings one way or the other for him, but as long as he wasn’t doing anything dangerous (you know what I mean, don’t twist my words), his is a death that should be mourned.

RIP Paul Harvey

And that WAS Paul Harvey doing the voice in that Simpsons episode. He actually voiced himself in that episode. And now you know the rest of the story….

According to snpp.com (not the best of sources, admittedly), it was Harry Shearer. IMDB (yes, the inaccurate movie database, hahahaha…) also, doesn’t list anything about Paul Harvey in that episode (though does list guest star Johnny Cash in the episode “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer” and Paul & Linda McCartney in “Lisa the Vegetarian”). We… we are talking about “Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy” from Season 6, right?

I swear, I remember seeing Paul Harvey’s name in the closing credits of that episode, Grampa vs Sexual Inadequacy. I will have to double-check my DVD copy of that episode. I have that season’s DVD set.

I could be wrong… eh.

RIP Paul Harvey

I always looked forward to hearing the rest of the story on the radio. I think Paul Harvey was a great radio personality. I was saddened to hear of his passing.
