RIP DAN WHELDON

Indy car driver and 2005 and 2011 Indy 500 winning driver was killed during a 15 car wreck early in the race to day at Las Vegas.

He was a father of two young children.

I will keep his family in my prayers, along with his friends and competitors.

RIP DAN WHELDON

Re: RIP DAN WHELDON

I guess he didn’t use enough vagisil.

Rest in Peace.

Re: RIP DAN WHELDON

What kind of a BS comment is that? This guy lost his life today and you want to make jokes about it.

Shows a total lack of any class at all on your part Jaclyn. I expected better even from you.

My prayers will also be with his family and friends.

Re: RIP DAN WHELDON

I saw that crash on ESPN when I finally woke up earlier and I have to say it was the worst crash I’ve ever seen in years of watching races with friends. Wow… my thoughts also go out to the Wheldon family and I still remember him winning the Indy 500 this year as I had caught the tail-end of that race.

My heart goes out to the family in a big way.

Re: RIP DAN WHELDON

Simple, laughter and joking is a coping mechanism.

While I’m in no way a fan of nascar or racing of any kind or, to be blunt, sports of any kind, I do recognize that it takes a lot of physical AND mental skill to be able to navigate even the simplest of loop tracks with a dozen other drivers constantly passing you or being passed for 500 laps.

And so, I posted that joke out of irony.

Plus, I really enjoyed that episode of south park. Keep in mind that while cartman was the one making fun of nascar saying he’ll never be poor and stupid enough to drive in it, Trey Parker and Matt Stone did in fact show that none of the drivers were idiots to their profession.

I’m still amazed to this day that everyone finds such a commonplace and mundane event as death to cause laughter and other emotions/actions designed to cheer a person up to be somehow inappropriate.

Bottom line, get over it. It was a joke, and that’s it.

Re: RIP DAN WHELDON

Thanks for this thread. I appreciate it. I don’t follow Indy racing that closely but was named after a nascar driver (partly). It has been a part of my family for years and I am glad to see the community recognize Wheldon.
