I have a research paper due at the end of the semester for the beginning english class I am taking(I failed that part of the CPT, along with math). My topic is “What Event(scientific, discovery, etc.) Has Changed The Way Americans Live Today?”. We picked our topic on the first night and I got stuck with Currency. I told the teacher that I thought the topic was to broad and I suggested Counterfeiting. I want to do the Superdollar( Superdollar - Wikipedia ), but I dont know how much information I can find. Ive found a bunch of news articles online and there is a Wikipedia article(which I linked to above). I have checked the library and there are no books on the Superdollar. What do you all think?
Research Paper
I think that if I were your English teacher, and you turned in a paper sourced to Wikipedia, I would fail you on the paper. No joke. The same would go for any Encyclopedic source. It’s what I do for my students.
My recommendation would be, if you want to stick with that topic, to check the sources list at the bottom of the Wiki. It will lead you to probably as many reliable sources as you’ll need if the Wiki is kept up.
Research Paper
From an impact standpoint, you might be better served writing on the collapse of the Bretton Woods system. It’s not the most stimulating subject, but there should be a lot of information on that.
Research Paper
the references are a bunch of news articles, most of which ive already found. if only i had gotten a subject that wasnt so damn broad, or if i hadnt been one of the last to get to choose.

So narrow it. What is a major leap in the development of currency that affects your life today?
Research Paper
i dont know. the only thing i can think of is the new security features make it harder to counterfeit it, but that doesnt affect me in any way.
Research Paper
Well you could back into history a bit. For example at one point in time it was legal for banks to print their own paper money, or going off the Gold Standard.
Research Paper
Or the fact that money has provided a way to compare the incomparable?
People say you can’t add apples and oranges, but the simple way is that an apple is worth one unit of currency and an orange is worth two.
Also, the dollar is a symbol of America. Consider, for instance, the relation of the US currency to the asserting of independence from Britain.
Or in language… Think of terms relating to ‘green’
Research Paper
the thing is that it has to be something that affects the way we, as americans, live. im not sure what the hell this group was thinking when they wrote it on the board as a topic.
Research Paper
Both of things I mentioned have had a drastic effect on the way Americans live.
Research Paper
As regards the superdollar you could talk about how the wild accusations as to who is responsible typically follow the political feeling of the time (eg. accusing China, Russia, North Korea and the CIA) and you could discuss then the impact of this on the political mindsets of the population? If you read that the Chinese are trying to undermine your economy surely that affects your life?
Research Paper
i know it affects me, i just dont know how. also, it has to be an event that affects me. i asked my prof. if identity theft would be ok, and she said it has to be an event, like the first notable case of identity theft that changed the laws. ive been researching cases, but so far havent come up with much. i found the case of Michelle Brown(which was made into a movie, apparently), but i havent found very much info other that a transcript of when she spoke to congress. this paper is alot harder than i thought it would be.
