Chapter 5
The bathroom door opened, and Mommy came out wearing a fluffy blue bathrobe and a white towel turban on her head. Lucy cringed on the far side of the room, squatting by the doll house and pretending to play in an attempt to defer the moment of truth.
“There’s a good little girl,” Mommy praised. “You play with your dollies while Mommy gets dressed, then we’ll get Lucy all ready for school!”
Lucy moved the doll living room furniture around mindlessly, squirming uncomfortably in the soiled and now itchy diaper. Oh dear lord. Why did I do this? This is so uncomfortable. She continued to move furniture around the dollhouse aimlessly, trying to remain in a squatting position for as long as her legs could stand it, as this seemed to be the position that kept the load in her diaper farthest away from her skin.
Finally, Mommy reappeared. She held a beckoning hand out to Lucy. “Come on, Sweetie. Let’s get you changed and dressed.”
Lucy plodded slowly toward Mommy, a furious blush creeping up her cheeks. Mommy sniffed the air a few times. “Oh dear. Lucy, did you make a poopie in your diaper?”
Lucy flushed an even deeper shade of crimson, but didn’t answer. What could she say? It was obvious she had, but in the state of mortification she was in, she couldn’t form the words to respond. Mommy grabbed her arm, pulling her closer, and turned her around. She lifted the nightie and pulled out the back of Lucy’s diaper, confirming what both women already knew.
“Pee-oo! Someone is a stinky little girl. You’ll definitely need a bath this morning.” She led Lucy toward the bathroom and laid her on a towel on the floor. She deftly removed the plastic panties, then unpinned the wet, dirty cloth diaper. Pulling a few baby wipes from a container on the counter, she cleaned most of the mess off of Lucy’s backside, then emptied the contents of the diaper into the toilet. Leaving Lucy naked on the towel, she took the diaper into Lucy’s room and dropped it into the waiting diaper pail.
Well, that wasn’t so bad so far, Lucy thought. I don’t seem to be in any trouble at all!
Mommy returned to the bathroom and began running a bath. She helped Lucy to her feet and guided her into the warm water. “Okay, little one, let’s get you all clean and ready for your first day of school.”
Lucy sat in the warm water, calmly submitting to the head-to-toe scrubbing Mommy administered. Mommy guided her out of the tub and dried her gently in a large white towel. She put the lid down on the toilet and guided Lucy into a seated position on the toilet. Lucy winced as Mommy ran a comb through her shoulder-length hair, working out all of the knots. Mommy then pulled her hair into to high ponytails and tied a pink ribbon around each one.
“Oh, what a pretty little girl I have!” She exclaimed as she guided Lucy back to her bedroom. Just then, Lucy felt a twinge in her lower abdomen as her bladder alerted her of an upcoming need to empty itself.
“Mommy! Potty! Pee pee!” Lucy exclaimed, holding her crotch and shuffling from foot to foot.
“Oh Lucy, sweetie. You’re too little to use the potty. Little girls who poo poo in their pants or in their diaper get no potty privileges for 48 hours. That’s 2 whole sleeps!” She explained patiently. Mommy guided Lucy to the changing table and helped her up. She expertly coated Lucy’s diaper area in a thick layer of zinc cream, then slid a thick disposable diaper under her rear. Pulling it up between her legs, she taped it snugly. Lucy looked down and was surprised to see a line of cheerful yellow ducks along the tapeline.
Mommy helped Lucy off of the table. Lucy stood in the middle of the room, shuffling from foot to foot in a slightly muted version of the familiar toddler pee-pee dance. She knew eventually she’d have to wet her diaper – there’s no way she could go two whole days without urinating, but she wasn’t sure when she would next be changed and wanted to minimize her time in a wet diaper as much as possible.
Mommy began pulling clothes out of the dresser and the closet, putting together an outfit for Lucy’s first day of school. She returned to where Lucy was standing, and helped her into a white cotton top with puffed, ruffled sleeves and a short pink overall dress. She then completed the outfit with a pair of frilly white socks and pink Mary Jane shoes.
Lucy looked down. On one hand, she knew she looked childishly adorable – ridiculously cute, to be honest. On the other hand, she also knew that if she sat wrong or bent over, everyone would be able to see her diaper, an idea which both frightened and thrilled her.
Mommy grabbed a pink Dora the Explorer backpack and filled it with extra diapers, a spare outfit.
“Come on, Sweetie. We’re running late.” She ushered Lucy out of the bedroom, added a lunch kit from the fridge to the backpack and zipped it up. After helping Lucy put the backpack on, she shrugged herself into a much larger, much more mature-looking backpack and led Lucy out of the apartment, locking the door behind her. She took Lucy by the hand and led her down the stairs and to the room they’d been at the night before.
Despite having completed school years ago, Lucy’s first day of pre-school was starting today, whether she liked it or not.
