So anyone else doing NaNoWriMo. I opened this thread for us to discuss it. While I don’t write ABDL stories for NaNo, I think it is a relevant topic for a lot of us and I didn’t want to fill the Things that Made Your Day and the Venting Anger threads with NaNo issues.
So I am at day six and have just over 8334 words written. That is supposed to be my day 5 wordcount, but I haven’t, nor do I desire to write tonight. What is wrong with me and how will I finish if I burn out this early. Moreover, I am about halfway through my outline and I am at less than 10K.
Anyone else have NaNoWriMo feelings, both good and bad?
My word count is at a whopping 4390 words.
I’m doing Nano too. I’m either 1/2 or 3/4 of the way through the first scene- I’ll know more when I write more. That sounds really bad. It’s my Pantser side showing through. I did attempt an outline. character A, character B, x happens. y happens. z happens. end story. It’s very vague but I’ve learned I don’t do well with pre-planned specifics.
Sometimes writers just need a break from writing. There’s plenty of time to catch up! A little over 3 weeks. =D
Since this happened with my Nano entry, I’m posting it here. My cat decided to help me with my Nano story. Open, unattended laptop with an open document on it + cat sitting on keyboard= 12 page document morphs into a 75 page monstrosity full of randomly pressed keys and a lot of blank space, depending upon where said cat sat. I know I’m behind on my word count, but I really could’ve done without her help.
…Still a little behind on my word count. But so far, my plotting hasn’t been too bad. My outline was a very vague : A, B, C. A ended up getting expanded and consuming a majority of the plot, half of B got chucked out the window and the rest smooshed in with C. But it works and since it was a short- literally 3 sentences- outline, it was flexible enough. As the story’s progressed, I’ve made notes/ outlines for immediately following scenes. Maybe I’ve finally found a workable way for my derptastic brain to outline. I’m not holding my breath, though. I’ll consider the results a success or failure when Nano is done and I can see the proof in the pudding. xD
I am officially 10000 words behind. Yea me. My cat is also the budding author. She is quite prolific as she managed to open over 100 different instances of Mousepad and type into each one. Of course you can’t close the program until you confirm that you really want to delete her masterpieces. She also managed to type in a lot of diacritics which is quite the feat (Feet? At least three of them.). Of course my NaNoWriMo novel was safe.
I am struggling a lot because my coworker picked November to travel to Africa for the whole month so he can be with his wives(plural). So I not only have to do my shifts on the weekdays, but his on the weekend leaving me very little time to write. I thought I would be ahead. I am hoping to catch up over Thanksgiving since we aren’t having dinner with the extended family, but instead we are just going out to eat. I took off work starting Thanksgiving until December.
The invitations had a Peanuts theme and I stated that I didn’t, in the words of Peppermint Patty, care to have toast, pretzel sticks, and popcorn for Thanksgiving.
Cats are very good at not being very helpful when they decide to help out. :3 Sometimes I think they do it on purpose. xD
When you’ve got a full plate, it’s hard to find writing time. I totally understand that. Hope you can catch up (and rest up) over your break. 10K isn’t that far behind. :3 You can do it!!! Peanuts are awesome, haha. The invitations sound adorable.
So I finished my story at 15,450 words. Not sure what to do here, but go one and write out all my short stories I want to do until I reach 50K. I got an idea, but I am totally stealing an award winning science fiction story, but it will actually be science fiction and have no mention of a dinosaur in it. Actually, a dinosaur is what makes that story, so therefore I am not stealing from it afterall.
One of these days I should really try my hand at this.
So I get that the goals are self inflicted (lol, maybe there’s a better word,) but is there any requirement for actually completing something?
I could probably get a ton of stuff written, but I’d likely end up only completing one, maybe two, really short stories. It doesn’t feel like much of an accomplishment if I don’t actually compete stuff.
I guess I’m answering my own question, because it’s mostly just personal goals, but would anyone else like to weigh in?
Also, I just recently realized what it is that makes writing such a problem for me. My method at work is to be exceedingly meticulous, and only have to do something one time. That is, of course, totally opposing to the idea of getting a rough draft written quickly, then coming back and editing it. It’s really difficult for me to work on writing with a completely different mindset like that. Oh well, lol.
