NaNoWriMo 2015

This didn’t really fit in Venting Anger, Things That Made Your Day, nor the General Discussions forum since it’s not ABDL specific so here it is in Off Topic :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, after the last few days I truly understand the purpose of the ML Appreciation Day. The amount of stuff I’ve had to deal with today doing prep for the 2015 session for what is an unholy amount of Arkansas has me ready to kill someone. I’m having to put out fires started by a previous ML who basically ruined the organizations name with several places around here… Seriously, I cannot emphasize enough how much he fucked shit up for future MLs. Example: Tried to setup a write-in at the library in my home town. Won’t talk to me. Why? The jackass has made arrangements for a write-in, then never actually up leaving the library with a dozen writers who had no leadership. Another example: Called a couple of places over in Mena. They won’t talk to me because he reserved spaces then never paid for the fees.

So, anyway mini-rant out of the way, what’s everyone’s plans this year? I think mine are somewhat obvious :stuck_out_tongue:

I was going to continue a book series I started a couple years ago but I may actually go in a different direction as I have to balance my writing time with ML time and time travelling to a few of the write-ins in the more remote parts I can reasonably travel too (incidentally? Totally would appreciate any donations you want to throw my way in October/November to help offset the costs :stuck_out_tongue: )

Oh, one other thing I am going to ask as a ML: Make sure you’re homed to the correct region if you’re doing NaNoWriMo. You would not believe how many people I found who are homed to the region I’m responsible for instead of the correct ones for where they’re located :stuck_out_tongue: (seriously: 129 people homed to my region that should be in the Fort Smith region :stuck_out_tongue: )

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

We meet at coffee shops. Usually they are happy to have us, because we buy those expensive coffees they sell. However, in my brief experiences in Little Rock, I was pretty much limited to Starbucks. I don’t think Arkansas has ever heard of an independent coffee shop. Also bookstores like Barnes and Nobles and Books a Million like to have write-ins because writers buy books. I don’t recall us having to pay fees for places. We just make sure to buy enough food from the venue so they are happy we are there.

As for region, I think you can sign up for whatever region you like. We got writers from California and Indiana in our region, simply because they love our ML so much and didn’t want to change regions when they moved.

My plan is to try to write everyday. I am failing at trying to get stuff done regarding my story on this site. Not sure how I am going to do that since I am burning out from doing third shift so long. I am just tired during the day. Anyway, I plan to write the novel again. I hope this time it comes out okay.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Little Rock != 60% (area-wise) of Arkansas. That would be the rough size of the elsewhere region, which doesn’t exactly have a lot of book stores and coffee shops to work with… Best we have (when we’re lucky) are McDonald’s, a few truck stops, and libraries. Truck stops not so happy when you take up their space. Most of the McDonald’s in the section of Arkansas I get to deal with? Minimum food purchase OR a usage fee. Usage fee is usually cheaper. $10 for a group of 20 vs. $7 per person with an average group size of 10.

Personally, I’m actually in 5 regions, Fort Smith, my Own, one that is being folded into Elsewhere this year, Tulsa, and Oklahoma’s Elsewhere. The thing is I mentioned HOME regions, and for a very good reason. That region that’s being folded back into my Elsewhere region this year? It’s because of an apparent lack of participation. They’re actually a fairly active region but so many of their participants are incorrectly homed to the Elsewhere region because they thought it was necessary to use the chat room in the past. There’s actually a second region about the face the same fate and for the same reason. It really sucks because it means those regions won’t be able to have their own separate MLs which means they’re less likely to have write-ins unless future MLs for the Elsewhere region are willing to do the work to help them set things up.

Considering how [sarcasm]helpful[/sarcasm] my Co-ML is being so far, I don’t hold out much hope for them since he’s technically the ML responsible for that part of Arkansas.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Hah! I actually wouldn’t trust most of the coffee places around here to know how to make a proper cup of it.

There are actually a few decent independent ones in Fort Smith. In fact one of them is a regular sponsor of the Fort Smith NaNoWriMo region.

Oh, and since I posted this I did finally get one location as a definite write-in location. The pizza place my sister is the store manager of is letting us have a few write-ins there with food and drinks at cost, so that’s something. Now I just have to get my Co-ML off his lazy ass and actually doing his job for his half of the state :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

How’s your guys Nano going? I went to a few write ins this week and am about 9,500 words in as of last night. I’m posting the chapters under The Sphere in the non ab/dl section if anyone’s interested in reading it.

Where is everyone at with their word count?

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

I broke 26K about 10 minutes ago. Haven’t been getting much sleep so I’ve been doing a lot of writing instead.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Holy crap… 0.o Here I was all happy for keeping up…

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

I’d be much happier with a lower word count. It would mean I was getting enough sleep at least

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

I am barely keeping up. I am almost done with tomorrows word count.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

I got the flu barely 2k words in, Spent 7hours in the ER not going very well for me

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Finally got to 20,000 words, almost at the half way point! Couldn’t help but slip little tiny bits of omo and diaper content here and there out of habit.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

You wouldn’t be the first. There’s a teenager in the region I’m a ML for that is writing an ABDL themed sci-fi story. I may ask her to post here after it’s done

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Oh wow! You’re a ml? That’s cool! A lot of work :stuck_out_tongue:

My region doesn’t really have an ml, but there’s a few of us that meet up at barns n noble and drink coffee. Occasionally have a word war or two

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Wow, she announced to the group that that is what she is writing? Look forward to reading this if she indeed decides to post here.

Our region has write-ins every day this month except for Thanksgiving Day. We have two cities, so often we only have a write-in in one city. Last night we had an adult only write-in in a brew pub. I didn’t care for any of the beers though, so I wasn’t too worried that I forgot my growler.

Anyone have trouble getting into their story. I am still setting things up right now. It is looking to be a 150,000 word novel. I cut out the whole part about the tractor and it is still long.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

Depends on the region. As an Elsewhere region, yeah, it’s hell. Especially since my Co-ML didn’t want to do jackshit prior to November and then manged to wrap his car around a light pole on the way our Kick-Off party leaving me to do all the work for the rest of the month.

Not really. She was asking some questions in the chatroom that made me suspect what she was writing so I asked her privately about it. As far as I know I’m the the only one in the region who actually knows about it

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

You’ve probably already reached 50k by now XD

Almost to 30k. Not to try and entice anyone to read my story or anything cough but there may or may not be veliciraptors in top hats, monocles, sporting handlebar mustaches that can shoot laser beams out of their eyes that turns everything into a penis in the latest chapter…0.o

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

I got to 50000 words yesterday afternoon. Yay. I may reward myself by buying that mechanical keyboard I have been thinking about.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2015

I did it! collapses
