I knew the cost of cigarettes would go up one day...

Not that I smoke (I quit years ago), and I’m really glad the cost of cigarettes has gone up over the years, but this is redonkulous.

From the AP

MANCHESTER, N.H. – A New Hampshire man says he swiped his debit card at a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes and was charged over 23 quadrillion dollars.

Josh Muszynski checked his account online a few hours later and saw the 17-digit number — a stunning $23,148,855,308,184,500 (twenty-three quadrillion, one hundred forty-eight trillion, eight hundred fifty-five billion, three hundred eight million, one hundred eighty-four thousand, five hundred dollars).

Muszynski says he spent two hours on the phone with Bank of America trying to sort out the string of numbers and the $15 overdraft fee.

The bank corrected the error the next day.

Bank of America tells WMUR-TV only the card issuer, Visa, could answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank.

That’s worse than the guy in Washington State that got charged $81,400,836,908 for a tank of gas lol. It’s stuff like this is the reason I prefer cash

Yea, that was the shocking thing to me, too Vickie. That BoA (which happens to be my bank as well) would keep this guy on the phone for two hours. Good job BoA lol.

o.o… dubya tee eff. If he took all the money in the us…i still don’t think he’d be able to pay that off…

Apparently, it wasn’t the clerk making a mistake. It was Visa. A man in Texas went out to eat and got the same exact charge to his Visa card. $23,148,855,308,184,500. For dinner. The desert better have been to die for lol.

This is Visa’s statement regarding the issue:

Visa said the technical glitch that resulted in the giant charge only affected some customers with prepaid Visa cards.

“A temporary programming error at Visa Debit Processing Services caused some transactions to be inaccurately posted to a small number of Visa prepaid accounts,” said Visa spokeswoman Elvira Swanson said in a written statement. “The technical glitch has been corrected, and all erroneous postings have been removed.”

One hell of a glitch

Tell me about it! LOL! That’s more money than I’ve ever seen in my lifetime and I grew up poor. My family always struggled. Now THAT’S a debt!

I think they should have made him pay it. Just for shits and giggles. Or even better, made BoA write it down as bad debt! lol
