I HATE created holidays by greetings-card companies. I hate them with a passion.
Sundays, usually at where I work I am usually out by 10, but NOOO… I was not out til 12 because of the fake holiday known as Father’s Day. Mother’s Day is even worse.
I REALLY HATE fake holidays. I’ve always considered those two days I mentioned to be nothing more than creations by the greeting-card companies and the mass media in the US. That’s all they are.
Sure I racked up extra bucks, but still… UGH. I’ve had one hell of a long day and week. I have not had a day off in 8 days. Sorry, had to vent.
Those days are nightmares to dishwashers and those in the restaurant industry like me. Yeah, I chose this life, but still… why go overboard for fake holidays?
Fake or not, people love their parents, and will do things to make them happy. Sure you should shoot to do this more than one day out of the year, but…well, that’s American culture, huh? We’re lazy, so we afford to show a year’s worth of affection in one day! Ingenuity.
“Fake” is a loaded word. What would you say is a REAL holiday? Muslims would call Christmas a fake holiday. Christians called Winter Solstice a fake holiday and supplanted Christmas on it.
You know, it’s just occurred to me that it’s quite peculiar that it’s Father’s Day and Mother’s Day rather than Fathers’ Day and Mothers’ Day. Not like it’s just for the one very best Dad out there…
I just had a rough day on Sunday cause it was not really expected to be busy, as it usually is not on Father’s day, but I will say this. The thing that kept me going was the fact I am racking up big bucks and my boss is going to have to sign a monster paycheck when he gets back. LOL.
I do hope everyone had a good Father’s Day though. Sorry if I seemed frustrated.
