Lately, I’ve been told I could have the storage room after we clean it out, to use as an office. Now, I’m going to need to buy some new furniture, though I don’t need to go crazy on quality (antiques not needed, in other words).
Well, I’ve never been really good at interior decorating, so I figured maybe some of you could lend me some assistance in finding some items to build this place:
into a work space. I’ve got what I believe the room measurements are here:
I don’t have a diagram of where the power outlets are, but I’ll get that as fast as I can… Also, I’ll probably take that ceiling fan out of there.
I’ll need a place for two laptops (yes, two) (a place for a keyboard for at least one of them), a 17inx10in printer, and a small table where I can doodle, paint, etc…
Sorry to impose upon you like this, and if there is anything I forgot, tell me. I’ll remain active in the process, so I’m not just being lazy.
Is the 27.5 in. and 41 in. dimensions of a closet that doesn’t quite go to the other wall? If so, that might be a decent place to put a bookshelf for resource books. You got a very high ceiling, which is good for anything artistic because you won’t have to worry about moving big sketchbooks around and hitting anything.
Actually, it’s just a little inlet that houses a bookshelf currently. The closet is shelved and, removing the inlet from the length of the other wall, is about 97 inches long (with sliding mirrored doors), give or take a few.
Flat pack… it still took me like 4 hours (Three episodes of The Daily Show, AD Police Files, Project A-ko, and The Pursuit of Harimao’s Treasure) by myself in the middle of the night.
…I don’t have the patience to treat wood like this.
I got that new mouse I needed (Logitech LX3), replaced that USB HUB with a 2.0 one, since I was going to need another one eventually, and I got a pair of cheap HP speakers.
…and I drank that Grape Crush that was sitting on the Presidente Margarita coaster.
Both. Shade for privacy, curtains over to look nice. Actually, miniblinds are much better than a shade.[/quote]
Well, since it’s been decided that we won’t be painting over the jungle motif, I really don’t think I need to worry about looking too nice. I mean, it’s not going to match anyway now.
Miniblinds are better though, you say? At blocking the light? Because that room is on the east side of the house… You know, where the sun rises. Gets pretty blinding. Just reflecting off the floor in there into the living room (there is a large gap under the door because it’s an irregular) hurts my eyes.
Hmm… blinds probably would be better from a cooling perspective. If I remember right, the room gets pretty hot in summer (freezing cold in winter, just like my room). I could open the window and open the blinds.
Now I just need to figure out how big that window (the giant thing with the lattices crisscrossing) is.
Considering the “view” is of a gravel parking lot and my late great grandmother’s house, I would consider it, but I think I’m going to put blinds INSIDE the window. Mostly so I wouldn’t be getting any glare off the corner.
It still needs a bit of work, but here is what I’ve got so far.
I really thought I had more books to put here. I still might. Note the huge block of spiral notebooks. And I went with some thick curtains. Can get almost as dark as night in here with the lights off.
The big popcorn drum contains my paints and stuff, and below it I have a bunch of my RPG books, my SR novels (terrible editing and all), and my Junior High yearbook for some reason.
Above my desk I’ve pinned up my D&D 4th DM screen, I’m not seeing any problems with any of the placement of the objects there. Oh, and the file cabinet will be mine when it gets cleaned out.
And this is my well-worn comfy chair, and a better view of my rug.
