Well, 2009 should be fun. Shit tons of new PC games coming out, and we get a new president that has rallied a half of the country and terrified the other half far more than any other republican/democrat president has to boot.

Why do we even make this a Holiday?
Just an excuse to go out and get drunk, get together and socialize when you can do that anytime.
I just stay home and do my thing.
Funny story:
I did not know this was a Holiday until I was in 4th grade because I saw the supplies for it for the first time and we were celebrating it for the first time. Before, we just stayed home and did nothing that day and I was always sleeping when the new year came. The next year, we just stayed up late and watched TV and Nickelodeon celebrated the New Years and I saw fireworks go off for the very first time when it wasn’t even the 4th of July.
Sure I have always noticed it was on the calendar since I could read but I still didn’t know it was a holiday because we didn’t celebrate it so I assumed no one did.
One of my online friends is going to make up his own holiday. Celebrate when a new month comes every time.

That’s a good enough answer on its own, to get hammered and have fun with friends and family.
But Ironically this isn’t one of the big name commercial holidays like Christmas and Valentines day, there’s not a lot of big spending going on, and because of this, people had to think of an actual reason this holiday exists and there are plenty.
I mean, think about it, how many things or events happen in the course of a year or once a year that will affect the very outcome of your life.
-One more year of school completed.
-One more year of taxes completed.
-One more year of holidays and birthdays completed.
-One more election over with (presidential or other).
-One more calendar to buy/make/sell.
-One more year of simply existing.
There are thousands of events that shape the outcome of a person or group of people’s lives based on just the concept of a single revolution around the sun, and in my book New Years and Thanksgiving are the only two non-religious based holidays worth celebrating.
The above reasons and getting drunk/high/thrashed on various substances while playing billiards or darts is reason enough for me to celebrate.

No, that’s not possible, Charles… I have high hopes for 2009 being a better year. Jan 21st when DUBYA BUSH is officially NOT our President anymore will be a very, very happy day for me and many others. Try to stay a little positive and give 2009 a chance. 2008 was indeed a pretty crappy year but 09 brings upon new hope that things can change (for the better).

I decided this new year to do something I never thought I would do. Buy a coat… and now I’m having buyer’s remorse over the $200 thing. I often have buyer’s remorse with smaller items though.

Vickie I did not know that about thanksgiving and newyears being religious based holidays.
I see myself as a child of knowledge in many ways. If I learn something new each day I have completed a small goal towards bettering myself.
I do believe 2k9 will be much better than 2k8.

I slept all day and watched the Winter Classic hockey game from Wrigley Field. I lvoe the idea of outdoor hockey. I also worked last night, New Year’s Eve but I got a free glass of champale out of it.
I hung out with my best friend for a bit, and drank a few Labatt Blues while playing MLB 08 The SHow on my PS2.
