Ok, I haven’t been playing WoW for very long but after hearing about this one guy getting all his stuff lost to stupid gold farmers who hacked his account and sold everything, etc… (the non-Scott Johnson guy of The Instance podcast) I’ve been a little overly paranoid about a few incidents. Now, this last incident was a little weird, and I’m not sure how to interpret it. I don’t have the text since it was right when I had to reboot, but, I have this female hunter and, after my team scored a victory in a battleground (Warsong Gulch to be specific), well, someone started whispering me, saying they are an alt of a certain player on the opposing side and started asking me questions (specifically stuff about what realms I played on). Now, this particularly struck me as creepy. Especially since when I looked them up, they were a freshly created character. Level 1.
Well, what was going through my mind was in the realm of “oh man, this person is trying to scout out which realms I play on so they could better suit their gold farming clientèle”. Then another thought passed by, “maybe they’re hitting on me”.
I don’t know how to interpret this. If anyone has any clue, it will really help my peace of mind.
Oh, quick little piece of information about this: before they logged they said something to the effect of “see you again soon”, then did a regular face emoticon, then a winking one.
Not a big deal, really it happens quite a lot! I use too run two accounts to talk to Alliance (few of my friends) and would occasionally talk to randoms from BGs etc if they looked like they knew what they were doing! Talking about classes and ideas helps me become a better player
If they were going to hack you they would:
Link you too some fake site to put a key logger onto your computer.
Ask personal questions, about family and the like.
Not talk too you at all and try it using a half baked forum thread so there isn’t a real connection too your account and theirs.
Anyways just scan for bots etc if you get really suspect about it.
My account got hacked around 6 months ago, and I managed too get everything back from blizzard going through there retrieval system.
The thing is, I’m terrible. I also have a question, is it against the rules to use “track humanoids” in a BG? Nobody has said anything, but I find it really helps to know when the flag area is about to be invaded by the other team.
Using ANY in-game ability is not illegal in anyway shape or form. Only thing people get into trouble for is hacking, botting or terrian exploits! Anything you can train from your class trainer is free game too use
Probably. I actually think I may be getting better. My honorable kills for the last BG I played (I really need to buy more arrows now), was 51. Which seems much higher than ever before. I think I was… ranked third in my faction that BG.
Heh… my account was actually hacked Friday. The funny thing is that there were no keyloggers, viruses, or anything on my system either before or after the incident. I’m waiting for Blizz on a recovery now but they said they need a few days to “investigate” >_>
