Not only does it cut a lot of the content that was in SA, the graphics are better, but not good enough for the praise when the power of the PS3/360 is taken into account. Despite all that, it is getting 10’s everywhere, including such places as Gamespot (who had it at a 9.5 for a brief period on their site. Hmm…). It boggles my mind that it is scoring as well as it is everywhere, when it’s not even the best game of this short generation.
GTAIV. Most overrated game ever?
I’m not very far into the main storyline(Only done the 4th or 5th mission). Mostly been playing the multiplayer game. The multiplayer is way better that it was SA. The only thing that pisses me off is that you can’t fly the airplanes. You could fly them in SA. I personally would give it a 9 out of 10.

I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of the GTA series - the idea of killing cops, even in a virtual setting, seems distasteful to me. I usually play video games for the narrative, and I’d rather have a narrative centered in a context of good vs. evil than one of total moral ambiguity. If you like the series, though, power to you.
I do agree that it seems ridiculous for any game to get a 10/10, especially if it’s cut features from previous installments. Of course, it’s even more ridiculous to give this game a 10 and Mass Effect an 8.5… I don’t really understand game critics.
GTAIV. Most overrated game ever?
The only other GTA game I’ve played was 3, and I only played that for an hour or two on a friend’s PS2. I didn’t find it interesting enough to bother with any of the rest of the series, until I started hearing stuff about 4 that seemed like it fixed the things that made 3 frustrating for me. Mostly that I could somehow never figure out how to get anywhere, even with the icons on the map, whereas you can have 4’s map show you the best route to get wherever you need to go, and it sounded like the main character actually had some sort of personality. Plus, Ricky Gervais is supposed to be in it.
So I decided to rent 4, to give it a chance, and so far, I’ve really been having a lot of fun. I was never very good at driving in 3, but with the new controls, I’ve never actually wrecked a single car, though I have banged some up a bit. The shooting controls are a lot easier to use, too.
I still wouldn’t say it’s a 10/10 game, at least not so far, and I don’t know if I’ll buy it once my rental period is up - I’ll probably wait for a price drop - but it’s very good. Personally, I like it better than Mass Effect, which I played for about 10 hours, and had to struggle to make it that far, because I just wasn’t interested in anything that was going on, and I didn’t find it all that fun.
Also, I have yet to kill a cop, or anyone else (on purpose). I think I ran a couple people over when I was trying to get away from the cops during one mission, though. Good vs. evil is all well and good, but doesn’t that get kinda boring after awhile?
GTAIV. Most overrated game ever?
Having played GTAIV to about 30% completion, I do agree its not worthy of a 10 rating(but, who actually gives a flying fuck about numbers?). I’ve been a fan of GTA since I played the first on PS1/PC, way before the boost of popularity it got when GTAIII came out. Multiplayer is fun, yes, but I get sick and tired of seeing “This is the first GTA to have online multiplayer” (they seem to exclude the fact that both GTA1 and GTA2 had online multiplayer as well, San Andreas was only offline multi, someone correct me if I’m wrong).GTA since GTAIII has always had an awesome story, and this one is no exception. Also, the shooting is decent, feels more like Gears of War though :P. Where GTAIV fails yet again, is the amount of bugs it has, but that is one thing that is common to GTA. Overall, though, its still worthy of at least a 9.0, in my opinion(if you need a number).
Which brings me to another point, why the fuck does anyone care about a number? one single number cannot represent a game, the game represents itself. Numbers are all bought these days, I mean, Halo 3 got a perfect score from most everybody, even though it was pretty much Halo 2 with purrdier graphics(which is negligible, because Halo 2 upscaled on the 360 looks damn good), but MS paid out with a goodie bag from God himself(note that I actually own both Halo 3 and Halo 2 :P).
Also, as to the reason it got a 10 from everywhere, with what happend with Kane and Lynch and Jeff Gerstmann at Gamespot, every reviewer is too chicken shit to give a game anything BUT a 10, which defies the purpose of reviewing the game in the first place. This is only going to get worse as gaming becomes more an more mainstream, and if EA manages to buy Take 2, we can expect the yearly remake of GTA to get perfect 10’s……

EA better stay away from Take Two, They would ruin the GTA series!!
GTAIV. Most overrated game ever?
EA gets more than just GTA if they manage to get Take 2, EA will also get 2K Games (Therefore ensuring EA Sports will dominate), they will also get Irrational Studios(Bioshock), not to mention Midnight Club, Bully, and Manhunt(not that I care about Manhunt and its craptacular controls, but EA would still get it). EA looked as though it might have been changing from its “Buy a studio, then disband it(Westwood Studios =/)” roots, til they came out with their DRM scheme for Mass Effect and Spore.
Gaming is getting too damn commercial these days, Activision is getting to be just as bad as EA, cmon, another Guitar Hero already, and still 80 bucks a pop? Activison almost scares me more than EA, seeing as how they have the biggest MMO and RTS franchises around these days….
GTAIV. Most overrated game ever?
Does anyone find it annoying that you get a 4-star wanted level when you try to explore the airport & a 6-star if you go where you are not supposed to go, even when you can just walk there!!
All I know is, if & when, Vice City is redone, they had better keep it as close to the Vice City we all came to love!!
GTAIV. Most overrated game ever?
Meh…
There are a couple things from SA that I miss, like, stealing planes… and that’s about it. The new game is streamlined and more focussed, I think, but with far more ‘little details’ that really draw you into the world. It’s not impossible, which is good, and the story makes more sense than most of the other games have so far.
Over all, I’m glad I got my hands on it.
