Love “The Big Bang Theory.” Gotta say though, the latest season, some of the episodes are kind of hit and miss. Like the most recent one, Leonard confronts his bully for the first time since high school or whatever and Penny finds out she was a bully and decides to make amends by donating clothes. Neither of these plots go anywhere; neither have a conclusion of any kind. The story just…ends.
It’s one thing if the episode ended with a to-be-continued, that I could totally see. But the plots of this episode just stopped midway.
If you’re thinking I’ll get mad at suggesting netflix because I work at blockbuster, keep in mind I have netflix :P.
Blockbuster isn’t a great deal compared to netflix, it’s the same. The combo pass at blockbuster and the 1DVD plan at Netflix are virtually the same in price and service but with a few exceptions. Netflix has a larger selection but blockbuster has the convenience of a store you can browse around, as well as fringe benefits like discounts and crap.
Blockbuster is even slightly less valuable due to not having streaming capabilities.
I can’t afford Netflix and with two jobs that take about 55 hours a week, I don’t have the time to watch Netflix. I have stacks of unread books and unwatched DVDs as it is.
As far as Blockbuster and Netflix goes, I would use Blockbuster more if I actually had a store I could go to, but they closed all 3 stores in my area late last year(the one in my town is now a Subway lol), and before they closed I picked up quite a few DVD’s and Blurays cheap when they were selling their inventory. Netflix I had for a bit, but rarely used it(as many of the shows I watch are available via On Demand) so I record off of On Demand onto a DVD-RW, take that to my PC, rip the episode off of the DVD-RW, edit out the commercials, transfer them to an external HD for TV shows and plop it into its folder, so I never need to buy Season sets, unless they give material I may actually want to see on a bonus disc.
I would stream more if Comcast didn’t count streaming against my 250gig cap. My family and I tend to watch a movie every night(more if its a non school night) so streaming could eat up my cap space really quick if I stream in HD.
I would use Netflix to stream and Redbox to rent movies if given a choice. It’s just more economical. However, I am not doing either for a while since I am moving after Christmas and my roommate owns the TV, so I am leaving it behind.
Streaming is nice if its a movie or show you do not want to keep around for later viewings if need be. Thats one thing I hate about Amazon’s stream service. I have an account and got 2 free movies through them, but they can only stream to the Tivo’s I have, so if my Tivo’s die I am screwed because they are set up through Amazon’s Tivo system.
But honestly, I am old fashioned, I prefer to have physical backups of what I own. I ripped every single DVD and Bluray I have to digital formats and placed them on externals that I can simply plug into my bluray player, PS3, and TV and select what I want to watch. And I have a back up external of that external so if something happens, I do not need to re-rip everything.
I won’t lie, I still have hundreds of VHS tapes on shelves in my basement that I will occasionally watch on a VCR hooked up to a tube TV(the only tube TV I still own, VHS doesnt look good on a HDTV), but they are mostly recorded stuff(not movies)
I also have TONS of videotapes in my house. Both VHS and Betamax. A couple hundred of each at least! Everything from home movies to the original Star Wars trilogy and just about everything in between. I really don’t know what we’re going to do with them now.
The Original Star Wars Trilogy you should transfer over to DVD and keep around, thats what I did. I have a box set from the 15th anniversary that came with a yoda figure(I bought two of them) and when Lucas finally released them on DVD, they were the Special editions and eliminated the Han killed Greedo in cold blood aspect, so I transferred the VHS to DVD and even today, when I watch the Star Wars movies, I put in the transferred version lol
