Yay for forsaking common sense!
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
iPadE - environmentally friendly!!!
Moral of the story: if a deal’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
I know it’s basically a different situation, but vaguely similar…
This remindes me of one of the big scams in the 60’s and 70’s. In the cheap classified section of Popular Mechanics and other such magazines, once in a while I would see advertisements for high-quality, small but beautiful pictures of different presidents for a dollar each. What you got in the mail, if you ordered them, were one-cent stamps with the specified politician featured :).
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
People are fucking stupid and want to spend the least amount of money they can. My dad taught me when I was young that you always get what you pay for. Spend $180 on an “iPad”, either expect it to be a knock-off or bullshit.
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
The reverse is also true though, some people just want to spend as much money as possible without considering the actual worth of an item. A sort of “if it’s that expensive, it must be good” logic.
Especially true of electrical goods (you can recommend the perfect camera, but some people will ignore you and buy the most expensive in the shop), but works with anything, it’s the entire Ferrero Rocher business plan.
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
Very true. It really depends on what you’re buying. Some electronics are expensive just because of the brand name, while others are expensive because their quality is far superior.
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
Yeah, about chocolate (Ferrero Roche)… I laugh when I see people think Ganong and/or “those little sea-shell chocolates” are sooooo wonderful and premium. Those, along with most other mainstream high-priced fancy-boxed chocolates are mere mass-produced, low-grade crap, who spend far (FAR) more on their fancy packaging than the contents thereof.
I only know of two actual decent chocolatiers in North America who sell TRULY fine-grade, hand-made, no chemical/garbage-ingredient chocolates; Roger’s in British Columbia, and Bernard Callebault in Alberta. Check out Bernard’s website (easy to find with google); I order one 36-piece ballotin box a year for myself (around 60 bucks) and at Christmas, I order one box of their unbelievable, too-good-for-words chocolate cherries, at an utterly ridiculous price, but they are absolutely worth it.
Geez… for a guy who lives in a beat-up house and owns a decade-old lemon of a car, I sure can be a damnable snob !!
Re: Consumerism Fail. Woman Buys Wooden iPad.
Don’t worry - just from those chocolate makers, you’re not very good at being a snob.
