Anyone here speak/read Latin?

I got this extra credit assignment today for my Business Apps class. I have a list of 20 Latin phrases that I have to translate into English. I have probably 10 of them translated properly from using an online translator and another forum I frequent, but the online translator I used didn’t translate the rest of them properly.

So, does anyone here speak or read Latin or know of an online translator that will properly translate these terms into English?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

I don’t know any Catholic priests. TBH, I don’t even know where the nearest Catholic church is.

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

What are the phrases?

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

The ones that got translated wrong are:

Alenda Lux Orta Libertas
Servire
Civium in moribus rei publicae salus
Sapientia et Doctrina
Non Satis Scire
Virtus Tentanime Gaudet
Cor Sapientis Quaerit Doctrinam
Salus Populi
Leges sine moribus vanae
Non ministrari sed ministrare
Docendo discimus

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

1- Missing a particle, if it were Alenda Lux Ubi Orta Libertas, it could translate into “Let Learning Be Cherished”
2- To “serve”
3- “The welfare of the state depends upon the morals of its citizens”
4- “Wisdom and Learning”
5- “To Know is Not Enough”
6- “Strength rejoices in the challenge”
7- “The wise of heart seek knowledge”
8- “Welfare of the People”
9- “Laws without character are worthless”
10- “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister”
11- “by teaching, we learn”

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

That mistake on the first one is my fault. I missed it when I was typing them out originally and I just copied and pasted them here.

Thanks for the help, you two.

Now I sort of wonder where my professor got all of these, since they are all mostly college mottos.

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

Sorry, everyone. I forgot one.

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi

I believe ‘Semper’ is ‘always’, and going off of one Jaks translated ‘Ubi’ could be ‘be’. Anyone know what ‘Sub’ is in Latin?

Is it possible to do it the way I just did it? By breaking it down into parts?

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

It’s a joke: Always wear underwear. Semper = Always, ubi = where, Sub = under.

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

Thanks.

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

Look for the Latin for ‘six tall pine trees’.

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

And thus, I find my new sig…lol

Re: Anyone here speak/read Latin?

What’s up with people using parts of my homework as their sigs? I had another guy use the Latin phrase “If you can read this, you have too much education” as his sig on another forum I frequent.

I got the ten extra points if anyone was curious. Now have an 88% in the class.
