I don’t know if there are, but I am, and tonight, after a three month layoff, NASCAR is back. Okay, so it’s only an All-Star race, but next week is the big one (Daytona 500)!
If there are any other NASCAR drivers here, who’s your driver?
Me? I used to be a Mark Martin fan, back in the day. Him and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Now, I root for Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart (and I always have a small soft spot in my heart for Jamie McMurray…my Mom worked for his old Busch/Nationwide Series sponsor, Williams Truck Center, and I’ve met Jamie a few times when he drove that car…really nice kid).
I am a bit of a NASCAR fan. I am a huge Earndhardt Jr. fan, I loved Dale Sr when he was alive, and thought he was the best driver ever. I am also one of those many who hate Jeff Gordon.
I watch NASCAR mostly with my friends who are into it more than I am. But I will admit; it is a little something I indulge myself in from time to time.
I haven’t had any interest in NASCAR for more than a decade, but I used to be a Mark Martin fan as well way back in the day. I disliked Dale Sr. and Jeff Gordon, but respected Rusty Wallace.
I started out hating Jeff Gordon for no apparent reason, then when I actually sat down to watch a race I found myself rooting for him, and have been ever since. Truth be told, I don’t know why people hate Jeff Gordon so much. I’ve tried to figure it out, so has Jeff Foxworthy, and while Foxworthy’s rationale (Jeff Gordon enunciates) is comical, I doubt it’s the real reason. Probably mostly the initial competition between Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Sr. is to blame…
Yea, most people hated Gordon because he was too clean, too pretty, and all he did was win. The ironic thing is, as much as Dale and Jeff fought on track, they were friends and business partners off it. As for me, I don’t hate Jeff, and as his career has gone on, I find myself respecting him more and more. I still won’t cheer for the man, but I no longer boo him either…I save the boos for Jeff’s teammate Jimmy. God I can’t stand Jimmy Johnson.
Harvick is okay. I was raging at him for the 2007 Daytona race that he stole, but that wasn’t his fault, it was NASCAR’s for not throwing the yellow, preventing Mark Martin from winning that race.
One thing about Harvick…I did love that he punked Carl Edwards out last year. If you don’t recall, Carl Edwards had triggered the Big One at Talladega in the fall, and took like six Chase guys (including himself) out of the race. This also included Harvick. The next week, when Carl tried to ‘apologize’ (something he does to make himself look better, in my opinion…man is a jerk and a close second in my ‘most disliked driver’ vote behind JJ), the thing devolved into a fight. Carl tried to choke Kevin, but Kev-o slammed the big-toothed idiot on the hood of a car and put him in a headlock. Carl seemed, I think, to forget that Kevin was a highly regarded high school wrestler who gave up a chance at major college wrestling for a career in NASCAR. Edwards may be big and muscular (which I don’t deny…dude was on the cover of Men’s Health looking ripped), but Kev-o is way, way tougher and knows how to take someone down.
That was pretty good lol. I loved the baby powder flying all over the place! I don’t remember this commercial, but it was a while back, judging by the Winston Cup thing at the end. Hasn’t been Winston Cup since 2003. 2004 was the first year for Nextel Cup, and now it’s Sprint Cup. Who knows what it’ll be next year lol.
